Art gallery stages talk

ART After Dark will be the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery’s contribution to worldwide celebrations for International Museum Day on Tuesday.

The day will be part of Museums Alight!, a state-wide annual event presented by Museum and Gallery Services Queensland to highlight the great contribution Queensland museums and galleries make to their communities.

The Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery collection officer will deliver a talk on three paintings resting in the gallery’s vault on Friday, May 21 from 5.30pm.

These paintings will be discussed in full, revealing details of the artists and their styles along with the processes leading to acquisition.

“Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery is one of many museums and galleries across Queensland taking part in this year’s Museums Alight,” Museum and Gallery Services Queensland executive director Rebekah Butler said.

“Queensland is a culturally rich and diverse state boasting more than 400 museums and public galleries, each with their own unique stories, exhibitions, collections and activities to share.”

From 1921 to 1978, the Commonwealth Bank occupied the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery building.

During the bank’s occupancy, several changes were made to the building’s architecture which included the installation of two fully secure, concrete bank vaults, used today as the gallery’s collection storage facility and the vault installation space.
