The Rottweiler which attacked a boy, 2, at Nambour.
A ROTTWEILER that mauled a toddler on the Sunshine Coast belongs to the child's grandfather.
Grant Rayner was visiting his daughter and two-year-old grandson at their Nambour home when his dog attacked the boy about 9am today.
The boy was taken to Nambour Hospital with facial injuries, including puncture wounds around his mouth.
A hospital spokeswoman said he was in a stable condition.
Mr Rayner has told council officers he'll have the dog put down immediately.
"Officers have spoken to the dog's owner Grant Rayner who has indicated he was going to take the dog to a local vet and have it euthanased today," a Sunshine Coast Council spokeswoman said.
"We are watching to see if that happens.
"This doesn't rule out prosecution against the dog owner."
She said the male dog was unregistered, which attracts a $200 fine.
Council officers are investigating the incident and will visit the boy in hospital to record the extent of his injuries.
The attack occured at Park Road address in Nambour.
The latest attack comes as a Glasshouse woman prepares to face court next month over the savage mauling of 84-year-old Maude Isaak.
She was charged with failing to take reasonable steps to prevent a dog from attacking and two counts of failing to register a regulated dog.
Sunshine Coast Council are in the midst of a major crack down on unregistered dogs with $9000 worth of fines handed out in the last few weeks.
