Life-saving applications on iPhone

A number of applications are available for iPhones and they can teach people how to save lives in an emergency.

LIFE-SAVING education has been taken to the next level with the launch of medical applications for the iPhone.

St John Ambulance is leading the way with two applications released and another soon to be launched which educate users about first aid and resuscitation.

Application project manager Shay McAuley said applications were designed to help everyday Australians save lives.

“There are three apps for different uses,” he said.

“The Resuscitate App is to demystify the defibrillator process and give instruction about CPR and survival.

“There is also Medical Profiles which holds information about friends and family including allergies and next of kin.”

The next application, First Aid, which is set to be released in coming months, will be an informative guide in rendering first aid.

“It shows people how to treat things like choking, burns, fractures, asthma and severe bleeding,” Mr McAuley said.

“We designed the app to be have big, clear images at the top with simple instructions below.

“These apps are available to anyone who wants to feel confident in saving lives.”

Bundaberg Technology Solutions owner Jamie Huth said educational applications such as the ones by St John were a big reason iPhones were so popular.

“It’s definitely a good idea,” he said.

“People use these phones all the time and having applications available makes people more inclined to learn about health skills.”

Mr Huth said the applications available were educating younger markets.

“I think it’s a great idea to focus on getting younger people involved,” he said.

“These apps are available to anyone who wants to feel confident in saving lives.”
