A frightened Eve Williams after vandals smashed her window on Saturday night.
AN 80-year-old great-grandmother and her disabled husband have been left frightened in their own home after vandals threw a wooden bollard through their lounge room window on Saturday night.
Eve Williams was watching television with her husband, who is recovering from a stroke, when the projectile came flying through her window.
“It was like an explosion and I didn’t know what had happened,” Mrs Williams said.
The bollard, which Mrs Williams believes was taken from her fence, flew about 5m through her lounge room before stopping behind a pot plant.
“It must have been someone strong to have thrown it that far,” she said.
The home is about 10m away from the footpath.
Mrs Williams said she had “always felt safe” in her George Street home, where she had lived for the past 16 years.
“It is a shame because it really unnerves you when something like that happens,” she said.
Mrs Williams said a friend spent an hour helping to clean up the mess, made, but she was still finding glass in the carpet.
“Glass is everywhere,” she said.
“I’m terrified we might step on one of the little tiny bits that have got stuck in the carpet.”
Bundaberg Police Sergeant Steve Schultz said it was estimated the damaged window would cost about $300 to replace.
Sgt Schultz said a large group of people had been seen in the area at about the time of the incident.
The Williamses’ home was not the only place targeted on Saturday night, with a window broken at Kepnock Korner on FE Walker Street.
Sgt Schultz said the incident had been reported at about 8.15am yesterday morning. Police are investigating both incidents.
