Barry Fleming chats with Kaleb McMan, Chamara Kleinitz, Tony Terlier, Mathew and Braiden Connolly, Daniel Miller, Teresa Taski and Dylan Fleming at the diabetes support group launch.
BARRY and Tracy Fleming are determined to do all they can to help raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes in Bundaberg youngsters.
The couple is helping spearhead a team of parents as a part of the Bundaberg Juvenile Diabetes Action Group, which had its official launch yesterday at the Innes Park Golf Club.
“We are here to raise awareness and to provide support to parents, whether it’s just a shoulder to cry on or helping provide information,” Mr Fleming said.
Mrs Fleming said the idea for the support group came after their 10-year-old son Dylan was diagnosed with diabetes in August last year.
Currently, about 70 children in the Bundaberg region suffer from Type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes. The support group is open to any parent with a child suffering from Type 1 juvenile diabetes.
