All rounder and Brothers captain David Boge collected the Don Tallon Medal for the fourth time on the trot at last night’s Bundaberg Cricket Association (BCA) awards night.

The premiership-winning skipper capped another consistent season with the prize, beating team mates Mitch Sartori and Eddie Butcher, who tied for second place.

Boge’s offspin saw him take 28 wickets this season, at an amazing average of 9.2.

The left hander also hit 394 runs.

“He’s been the most consistent performer in Bundaberg cricket for the last four or five years,” BCA president Les Bennett said.

“He’s a credit to his club, a good captain and has cricket in his best interests.”

Bennett said it was refreshing to end the season on a good-spirited note, after judiciary concerns dominated the season.

“I umpired the division one final and it was played in terrific spirit, very competitive and a lot of fun to be involved in,” he said.

Adam Rayner scored 469 runs to win the division one batting aggregate and Sartori (71.5) had the best average.

Rick McAlpine won the division two player of the year and Michael Heading’s 36 wickets earned him the division three title.

Robert McGill and Kevin Bawden shared division four’s top prize, both dominating with the bat this year.

For his tireless efforts for Across the Waves, senior cricket and junior cricket Noel Stitt was awarded the Service to Cricket award.

After a breakthrough season that saw him represent Queensland Country under-19s, Steve Nichols won the Ray Haylock Most Outstanding Young Batsman and Mitch Waters got the nod for the bowling award.

Former Australian players Doug Walters and Geoff Dymock were the guest speakers on the night, sharing stories of their time in playing all over the world.

“I’ve played a bit of cricket with Geoff and he’s a true fair dinkum Aussie bloke, full of great stories,” Bennett said.
