Man to spend wedding day in jail

A MAN will spend his wedding day behind bars after he led police on a foot chase through the Bundaberg CBD.

Christopher James Blackburn, 25, from North Bundaberg, was charged with obstructing police after he ran from cops trying to arrest him for an outstanding warrant.

He was spotted outside the Grand Hotel by police officers about 11.10am on Wednesday.

Blackburn raced down Targo and Woongarra streets before he stopped in the IGA car park.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Robyn Shapcott, said Blackburn sank to his knees but refused a police order to lay down.

Defence lawyer Mary Buchanan told the court Blackburn was due to get married in the Bundaberg Courthouse on Friday.

He was sentenced to a month in prison.

His parole date was set for April 17.
