Classic car to hit the open road

CLASSIC car enthusiast Ian Jefferyes will take it easy when he drives his 1965 Humber Vogue to Ballarat for a rally over the Easter weekend.

Mr Jefferyes said the Humbers had their heyday in the 1950s and early 1960s when they were a very popular make.

“By the 1960s, the Humber had one basic body shape, but by changing the grille and a few of the details they could make it into a different model,” he said.

“I can remember seeing them on the road when they were new.”

Mr Jefferyes said he expected about 40 other Humber owners would join him in putting his car on display and driving around the Ballarat district during the rally.

He is also part of a committee bringing a Queensland Historic Motoring Council rally, which is expected to attract about 100 cars dating from 1911 to 1980, to Bundaberg on June 12, 13 and 14.

The weekend will start with a display of the cars at Shalom College on Saturday, June 12, followed by drives around the district..
