60 years of plays aplenty

THE Bundaberg Players will be the talk of the town when they kick off their 60th year of performing tonight with a production of Neil Simon's Rumors.

Bundaberg Players Glenn Ryan and Shaun Norden get into the dress rehearsal of Rumors, to celebrate the group’s 60th anniversary.

THE Bundaberg Players will be the talk of the town when they kick off their 60th year of performing tonight with a production of Neil Simon’s Rumors.

Bundaberg Players president Nigel Dick said despite the anniversary, no special performances were in store.

“It’s a pretty standard year for us this year,” he said.

“But we are doing a musical, which we have never done before.”

Mr Dick said he thought it was amazing the group had survived for so long.

“It’s a long time for any volunteer organisation to be together and keep working,” he said.

The organisation has attracted loyalty from a large number of people including Bruce Short, who has been a member since the second production.

“He is no longer involved but he and his wife often come to the shows,” Mr Dick said.

Mr Dick said the group still had a strong connection to members who started in the 1970s. To book tickets to Rumors, visit www.theplayhousetheatre.org.au.
