Glennie twins Eliza (left) and Eleanor West are collecting five cent coins from the Toowoomba community to raise money for charity and break a world record at The Glennie Fair.
YEAR 8 twins Eleanor and Eliza West had a simple idea for the Glennie School fair this Saturday: why not break a world record?
After “how many people can you fit into a mini minor” was deemed a bad idea (current record is 21), the West twins thought of a way for the Toowoomba school to break a world record, while raising funds for charity group Save The Children.
“We had quite a few crazy record-breaking ideas,” Eleanor said. “Eventually we thought of trying to make the longest line of five cent coins.”
“We contacted Guinness World Records and found out there was no official record for a longest line of five cent coins,” Eliza said.
“We brought up our idea with Glennie and now the whole school is getting involved.
“It’s a really good feeling to have our idea adopted by the entire school.”
The girls said they hoped to have an 800 metre line of coins, worth more than $2000.
Those interested in helping out can bring their five cent coins to the Glennie Fair on Saturday from 9am.
