AN outlaw bikie gang member accused of bashing his neighbour over a damaged gate will face trial.
Paul Raymond Boardman, 45, of Goodnight Scrub, was charged with assault causing bodily harm, attempted deprivation of liberty and illegally entering a motor vehicle after he allegedly attacked his neighbour, Robert Lindenberg, on May 13 last year.
The Finks gang member faced a committal hearing in Bundaberg Magistrates Court yesterday.
Mr Lindenberg told the court the pair had passed each other in their vehicles on Nielsens Road, when Boardman waved to the alleged victim to pull over.
The cattle farmer said he stopped his vehicle just after passing Boardman.
MR Lindenberg told the court the bikie approached his vehicle and accused him of drinking with two other men the night before — two men believed to have damaged Boardman’s gate.
The cattle farmer denied during the committal hearing that he was drinking with the other men that night, but said they came to his home twice.
“He stepped back from the vehicle and started throwing punches through the window,” Mr Lindenberg said.
The alleged victim said Boardman punched him between nine and 12 times, and also reefed his arm back when Mr Lindenberg went to protect himself.
He accused Boardman of pulling his hair as he “dropped the clutch” and sped off.
“There was hair and beard all over my shirt,” Mr Lindenberg said.
“I towed him along the road with my hair until he couldn’t hold on.”
Mr Lindenberg also said Boardman followed him as he left the scene of the alleged attack.
Defence barrister Catherine Cuthbert said there was a lack of “neighbourly feeling” between the pair in the lead-up to the incident.
She also cross-examined the alleged victim on aspects of the attack.
“Is it your evidence (Boardman) had such strength to pull your arm back with one arm?” she asked Mr Lindenberg.
Ms Cuthbert asked Magistrate John Smith to consider striking out the deprivation of liberty and illegal entry of vehicle charges.
“It’s part and parcel of the assault,” she said.
“We would consent to committal on the assault occasioning bodily harm.”
But Mr Smith said Boardman would face a trial in Bundaberg District Court on all three charges.
The defendant did not enter a plea.
