BUNDABERG residents are being asked to share their views on the best ways to address marijuana’s impacts on the community.
The parliamentary Social Development Committee is conducting an inquiry that will examine the risks of using cannabis and strategies to reduce its use.
MP Lindy Nelson-Carr will chair the committee.
She said there was mounting evidence that cannabis use was associated with serious health risks and those were particularly significant for young people.
“The committee will examine the latest evidence about the risks associated with cannabis,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“The risks to a user’s mental and physical health; the risk of addiction; and the risk of cannabis acting as a gateway to other harmful substances will be investigated.”
Residents are invited to make written submissions by Friday, April 23.
An issues paper providing information about the inquiry and how to make a submission is available online at www.parliament.qld.gov.au/sdc or by contacting committee staff on (07) 3406 7230.
