ANGRY tradies ripped roller doors from a half-built Designer Homes Wide Bay house yesterday, after news broke the company has gone into liquidation.

Police were called as the doors were being removed from the home on Starfish Crescent in Bargara, but it was too late to prevent the goods being taken.

The company’s directors Justin Ryan and Ben Hayhoe did not answer telephone calls yesterday, leaving creditors and customers scared that they will not see a cent.

At their Barolin Street offices, a liquidator was already taking inventory as removalists took away furniture and electrical equipment.

“We are still examining the situation to find out how much is owed,” liquidator Ross Duus said.

“The phone hasn’t stopped ringing all day with creditors and people who are building homes.”

One customer, who did not want his name published, said he was worried he would lose thousands of dollars he had paid as a deposit.

“I only found out through the grapevine (that the company had gone broke),” he said.

“My house hasn’t been started, so I don’t know if I will be eligible for any insurance.”

In a letter sent to some of the company’s creditors on Wednesday, the directors said they had pumped in $200,000 of their own money in a fruitless effort to keep the business afloat.

“All office furniture, vehicles, materials, (and) directors residences will be sold off to repay outstanding debt,” the letter said.

“Words can not describe the disappointment we feel in knowing we can not meet our current debts and no amount of apologies will replace the time or money that you have invested or are currently owed.”

Building Services Authority (BSA) general manager Ian Jennings said the company had a number of projects at various stages of development in and around Bundaberg.

“BSA will contact homeowners affected by the company’s collapse and work with them to assess any entitlement they have under the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme,” Mr Jennings said.

Any subcontractors or suppliers affected by the company’s collapse should contact the liquidator Ross Duus on 3870 7388.

BROKE BUILDERS

Coral Coast Homes and Steelsmart Kit Homes went into administration in June last year, owing more than $1 million.

Bundaberg Master Homes went under in May last year, leaving $1.5 million in debts.

GJ Gardner Bundaberg was stripped of its franchise in November last year when its BSA licence was suspended after failing to meet financial requirements.

BSA is as weak as water and a rip off to most genuine builders and sub contractors who win't see a cent.
Why have to use a BSA builder - better off working off reputations - plenty of good builders and subbies around not like these fly bu nighters.

It is sad that these building companies continue to commit to new jobs when they are well aware that they are financialy unable to pay the tradies and honour the build they are contracted to do. It goes to show that once again the people wishing to build, must contact the BSA and credit watch to thoroughly investigate each and every building company they are considering to use to build their homes. Unfortunately there are reputable builders out there that are going to be tarnished by these incompetent business owners.

All Clients affected by 'Builders Gone Bust' should not engage in the BSA to help recover loses and damages but should definately seek Legal help.
BSA charge a fee for all complaints and do absolutely nothing to get your money back.
They will hold a conference with all clients involved just to bitch about the Builders, WASTE OF TIME - DON'T BOTHER.

Only 3 months into the 2010 freefall year shows exactly what I have predicted:
Businesses closing left right and centre and so with it jobs.
Floods, storms, beach erosions, with the following road damages will become the merry-go-around to deplete peoples and councils finances to nothing..!
We will be hoodwinked on the ongoing basis by those incompetent Authorities with lies and falsified facts, only too late once the doors are closed.
There are still 9 months to go to 2011 the year of grief and the total collapse of this local economy.
If you want to know the secret, stay tuned as there will be more blunders reviled before the weather changes.

Buff, who's going to pay for the legal advice?

If the tradies don't get their money before the company goes broke, they've effectively got no hope -- with the BSA or without it.

Designer Homes? The only thing designed about this was their 'getaway'. Designed to fail more like it. Young. Arrogant. Stupid. Complicit. Untroubled by the lives and businesses they've destroyed. Show yourself boys... the town would like to have a word...
