Michael Pimm is shaving his head in the World’s Greatest Shave for a Cure after battling lymphoma last year.

LAST year Michael Pimm did not even consider shaving his head as a part of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

But that was before he was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma.

Now, after a hard 12 months, Mr Pimm and four of his close family and friends will lose their locks on Saturday for the charity.

The 33-year-old Bundaberg Sportspower owner was diagnosed in May last year, requiring chemotherapy and facing the prospect of being treated in Brisbane while his wife stayed in Bundaberg.

However, that was when the Leukaemia Foundation stepped in.

“They came to visit us in the hospital and arranged for counselling and arranged and paid for accommodation for my wife close to the hospital,” he said.

Mr Pimm said the foundation volunteers were also able to provide him with information he would not have been able to access otherwise.

“They help in a lot of ways people don’t realise and is hard to describe,” he said.

Having a small family meant Mr Pimm did not require all the services the foundation offered.

“It was comforting just to have the support down there and knowing they would help if we needed it,” he said.

He said the invaluable help of the foundation had inspired him to undergo the shave.

Mr Pimm no longer requires treatment but will need to undergo testing every three months to monitor his health.

Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland regional community fundraiser Pat Hooper said last year the foundation provided 2953 nights of accommodation for Bundaberg families.

“Last year we raised around $80,000 at the shave so we are hoping to surpass that,” she said.

Mr Pimm and his team will shave their head at Hinkler Central Shopping Centre on Saturday morning.
