BUNDABERG woman Marilyn King has been appointed as the Bundaberg region area representative for the Rural Fire Brigades Association of Queensland and is looking forward to bringing a wealth of experience to the position.

The former Bundaberg District Tourism and Development Board CEO and arthritis advocate has been an active firefighter with the Winfield Rural Fire Brigade for 10 years, and is an officer, crew leader and former two-time secretary.

“I am thrilled to be back in a region that has so much to offer and so many great rural fire brigades and primary producer brigades,” Ms King said.

“These volunteer brigades are the backbone of the fire service and are to be congratulated.”

Ms King is looking forward to getting to know the local volunteers.

“My plan is to get invited to as many brigade meetings as possible to introduce myself.

“I am keen to find out what is affecting the welfare and efficiency of brigades,” she said.

“It is a huge job, and the volunteer firefighters and fire wardens I am meeting are top quality community members. I look forward to meeting all members and I am relying on the secretaries to invite me to their meetings.”

Brigade secretaries can contact Ms King on 4156 6395.
