Bundaberg’s James Litzow (58) leads Harrison Oddie (2).
KARTING: The wet weather at the Dromeside Raceway last weekend left competitors with two options — use full wet tyres or slicks.
Some, like junior James Litzow, opted for the slicks in the hope the track would dry enough as the race progressed.
Litzow was outgunned by one of Queensland’s best juniors, Harrison Oddie, from the Sunshine Coast in the first heat.
But by the time the second heat was run, the track was dry and Litzow and Oddie again were battling it out.
Litzow beat Oddie across the line to take the heat win.
The third heat was a carbon copy of the second, with the two drivers only separated by millimetres, but again Litzow took the win.
Going into the final it was between Litzow and Oddie for overall honours.
If Litzow won the race he would take out the overall for the day; if Oddie won they would finish on equal points and Oddie would win it on a countback.
From the outset they were nose to tail, with Oddie in front.
Litzow was clearly quicker in some sections of the track, but Oddie was driving a defensive line and baulking Litzow at crucial moments to stave off the local driver and take the chequered flag.
“It was neck and neck all day there, a great contest to watch and James would have learned a lot from it,” senior driver Darren Ey said.
Meanwhile Brent Loeskow put the seniors on notice in his senior debut. Racing in the Sportsman’s Heavy class, Loeskow finished with two sixths, a third and a fifth, giving him fourth overall.
