BMX: BUNDABERG hot-shot Jade Parker is only one race away from qualifying for the BMX world championships in Copenhagen next year.

Parker blitzed her competition at the recent Champ Bikx Series tournament in Canberra, maintaining her position at the top of the series ladder.

She butted helmets with Australia’s best and brightest bikers at the infamous Melba and Tuggeranong tracks to place first in all 10 races.

“I train pretty hard and I’m always striving to achieve my best, so it makes all the effort worthwhile when I win,” she said.

She has been no stranger to the winner’s podium this year, taking all of the four Champ Bikx Series tournaments she has attended.

“I do like to win but at the end of the day I’m just out to have fun,” she said.

Jade first hopped on a BMX bike after seeing a race in Bundaberg as an eight-year-old.

The BMX bug proved to be contagious with her father and sister also strapping on shin pads and helmets to compete locally.

“It’s just a real thrill,” Jade said.

“We can’t get enough of it.”

Jade will be hitting the Bundaberg BMX track and skate park hard in the lead up to the final Champ Bikx Series tournament in the hope of securing a coveted spot on the Australian team, and a crack at the world championships.

Held in May, the race is the only thing between Jade and a chance to achieve her dream of taking out a world title.

“I really want to get over to Copenhagen and compete on that level, and race out of my comfort zone,” she said.

“Racing and training can be exhausting but it’s always worth it in the end,” she said.
