Hundreds stranded as bridges flood

UP TO 200 people are stranded at Booyal and Goodnight Scrub after the Burnett River flooded several bridges overnight.

The Perry River Bridge, on Goodnight Scrub Road, and Booyal Crossing have may remain impassable for up to a week, so Bundaberg Regional Council and Gin Gin SES have arranged a boat to shuttle residents back and forth to Gin Gin.

People needing to travel into Gin Gin should wait for the SES boat at the Goodnight Scrub side of the Perry River at 5.45am or 10am.

Return trips will be made at 2pm and 5pm, with collection at the council’s Gin Gin Service Centre in Dear Street each day until the road reopens.

The shuttle service is for essential community needs only and cannot assist with transport of vehicles, bulky items or livestock.

No transport across the Burnett River at Booyal Crossing is possible due to the dangerous condition of the river.

The Cedars Creek Bridge at South Kolan is also several metres under water.
