Multiple births mean more laughs

PETRINA Medlock has faced twice the usual trials and tribulations of motherhood but said she had been compensated by twice the amount of hugs.

The Bundaberg mum of twins and president of the Bundaberg Multiple Birth Association has urged parents of twins, triplets and quadruplets to come along to the Bundaberg Neighbourhood Centre for monthly support groups.

The full-time mum said she had her hands full with twins Lucy and Bronte, 2, and said multiples were notoriously demanding.

“If I didn’t come to the club and talk to other mothers I would have gone mad by now,” she said.

She said her twins regularly put her parenting skills to the test, conspiring in acts of mischief.

“We’ve had it all – eggs splattered through the kitchen, Weet-bix ground into carpet, footprints through wet cement and piddle down the staircase,” she said.

“Twins are excellent team players; one will distract you while the other one runs off and gets into mischief.”

Mrs Medlock said the support group meetings were a way busy parents could indulge in a bit of socialising and swap tips, information and strategies.

While the group sometimes dealt with serious issues, Mrs Medlock said it was often a light-hearted affair.

“At the end of the day, I’d describe my twins as double delight rather than double trouble,” she said.
