PLAYERS have responded differently to umpires’ claims they are being unfairly treated this season.
Earlier in the week, Bundaberg Cricket Association (BCA) umpires’ president Mick Clarry revealed to the NewsMail he was considering boycotting his umpiring duties this weekend.
The threat was not acted on, but he maintained that players’ behaviour must improve.
In response, Country Wests captain Mat Fleming questioned where the problem really stemmed from.
“I think umpires would be a lot more comfortable with making decisions if the players were being penalised,” he said.
“When nothing happens, it is going to worry them.”
On the other hand, Brothers skipper David Boge did not see what the problem was.
“What is the issue, really? I think it’s been blown out of proportion,” he said.
“There have been probably two occasions all year, that is about it.”
A poll on the NewsMail website revealed that browsers were split on the issue.
