Ride to raise money for cancer

CHILDERS man Hugh Gilroy will leave his home on March 22 to ride around Australia and raise money for the Prostate Foundation of Australia.

Steve Melchior (left) wishes Hugh Gilroy good luck in his quest to raise money for the Prostate Foundation by riding 15,000km in 50 days around Australia on his motorcycle.

CHILDERS man Hugh Gilroy will leave his home on March 22 to ride around Australia and raise money for the Prostate Foundation of Australia.

Mr Gilroy’s first stop will be Brisbane and, as he rides south, he hopes to complete his 15,000km round trip on May 11.

His grandson will set up a website for him so that interested observers, as well as friends and family, will be able to follow his progress as he attempts to cover 300km per day.

Mr Gilroy, who is 79 years old, said he had lost friends to prostate cancer and he had worked hard over many months to put the trip together to raise money and awareness for research into the disease.

He will ride his 1988 Honda Goldwing motorcycle and will tow a trailer donated by Elite Camper Trailers, of Maryborough.

Mr Gilroy is raising money by selling raffle tickets to win one of the trailers, as well as asking for donations of money and fuel as he rides around.

For further information or donations to the cause, telephone Mr Gilroy on 0428 713 232.
