THE crowd was full of tear-filled faces as hundreds turned out at a prayer vigil to remember eight-year-old Trinity Bates, the Bundaberg girl found dead after being allegedly abducted from her home.
Police blocked off Bourbong Street as throngs of community members spilled out of the CBD pavilion.
Church representatives, friends and complete strangers expressed their sorrow, anguish and love for the little girl whose life was taken four nights earlier.
A young girl who had known Trinity was only able to say; “Trinity was my best friend,” before she was taken from the stage in tears.
Children and adults alike expressed their sympathies.
A mother clutched her young daughter close saying she was “terrified” for her family.
Mayor Lorraine Pyefinch reassured the crowd.
“Bundaberg is a safe place,” she said.
“I am determined, everyone on this stage is determined, you all are determined to make sure it stays safe.”
Bundaberg mother Roxi Head said she had kept her 10-month-old son close by since she heard the news.
“I have kept him in the bedroom with me,” she said.
“I wanted to come and show my respect for Trinity and her family.”
Flowers, toys and candles littered the bottom step of the stage where audience members left their gifts.
Family friend Kerri-Ann Reis, her brother and niece were at the vigil to remember the girl they described as “delightful”.
“She had such a beautiful nature,” Ms Reis said.
“We offer our deepest sympathies and our hearts are with you.”
