Wild weather for Bundy district

RAIN bucketed down on our region yesterday.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Bundaberg received 30mm of rain between 9am and 3pm.

Hervey Bay was not far behind, with 29mm dousing the city, but Gayndah only received 0.4mm.

Showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms continued into the night in Wide Bay and Burnett areas.

BOM warned the rainy weather may exacerbate pre-existing local river and creek flooding.

Baffle Bob’s Caravan Park relief manager Warwick Player said he had heard reports about 5pm yesterday that Baffle Creek was about to swamp the Baffle Creek bridge for the second time in a week.

“Earlier this week we were cut off for five days,” he said.

The relief manager said he did not think the isolation would last long and floodwaters would rapidly drop once the rain eased.

Agnes Water and 1770 remained isolated yesterday and Fingerboard Road was cut off between Rosedale and Miriam Vale.

More showers were expected today in Bundaberg, along with a moderate 23 degree minimum and 29 degree maximum for the city.

As rain continued, Emergency Management Queensland advised that people should avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters; seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.

For emergency assistance telephone the SES on 132 500. For updated road condition reports telephone RACQ on 1300 130 595.
