UNITED 8’s young all-rounder Sam Daff is confident they can silence Wests Sabretoothed big gun and surge up the softball table tomorrow.
Queensland under-19 team mate and Wests recruit John Thomas, from Hervey Bay, has been a wonder find for the Sabres, his pitching at upwards of 110kmh proving too much for most.
But not Daff.
“I know what he throws, and every now and then I can pick him,” he said.
“His pace worries some, but not me.”
He said it was a matter of countering Thomas’s pitching and also getting it right in the field.
“Every mistake costs a run or a base, so we need to cut them down,” he said.
They sit just above their fellow Brothers United team in second-last place, but have not stopped believing a finals spot is possible.
“We’re battling for the wooden spoon at the moment, but we are really pushing to make finals. That’s our goal,” Daff said yesterday.
United 7 showed what they were capable of, knocking over ladder-leader ATW last weekend.
United 8 are out to cause a stir of their own, despite Wests also being in great form.
Sabretoothed are coming off a big win in last weekend’s grudge match with Wests Lynx, and have continued to improve with every round.
The game kicks off at 2.15pm tomorrow at Frank Coulthard Oval.
