SUPPORT for the Facebook group I want Virgin Blue flights to and from Bundaberg has nearly doubled after a story in Saturday’s NewsMail.

The social networking group, which just cracked the 1000-member mark on Friday night, escalated to almost 2000 members yesterday.

The group was created by Bundaberg man Brett Ephraims to encourage Virgin Blue to consider using the Bundaberg Airport upgrade.

Mira Koopman was just one Bundaberg resident to voice her support, writing: “Cheap Bundy to Brizzie and Bundy to Sydney flights would make life just perfect here!”

Janet Copley echoed the sentiment, writing: “Yes please, would love Virgin Blue to come to Bundaberg. We need you, Virgin Blue.”

However, despite the support, the airline said the group may not impact on their decision.

A Virgin Blue spokesperson said important factors in the decision were infrastructure, available aircraft and demand.

With almost 2000 members, it seems demand is far from short.

Members such as Vicki Ivins are keen to see QantasLink receive some competition.

“We need cheaper airfares for Bundaberg and the only way to get them is not to have a one airline monopoly. Join me up!” Ms Ivins wrote.
