Rally driver Adam Turner has had another successful season in his 1976 Datsun 180b.
Motor Sport: After blowing a diff in the first race of the season, Bundaberg rallycross driver Adam Turner was ready to write off 2009 as a loss.
The veteran racer thought any chances of securing the Hervey Bay Sporting Car Club and South Burnett Motor Club titles were out of the question.
But Turner was able to turn his season around and score five first-place finishes in the South Burnett season.
“I really just have to thank my sponsors, BG’s Tyre and Mechanical, JA Toft and Co, and Rum City Food Supplies, for sticking with me and making it possible,” he said.
This was the first season Turner had raced competitively in the rallycross championship in more than five years.
The Bundaberg racer returned to competition this year in Hervey Bay and Murgon.
And, after initial car troubles, he was instantly rewarded.
Turner rebounded from a horror start in the South Burnett Motor Club championship to win five races and claim the club championship.
The prolific racer completed a double win on the circuit when he won the Hervey Bay Sporting Car Club crown as well.
In the 2008/2009 season, Turner raced for six first-place wins to help claim the club championship.
“To win for two different clubs was a real honour,” Turner said yesterday.
Turner, a long-time driver in rally cars, said he would like to see the sport in Bundaberg.
“It would be great to see, but until that happens I’m going to have to race away,” he said.
“That suits me just fine.”
