Public support tortured pets

PUBLIC support continues to flow for the distraught Bargara family of two dogs that were tortured and possibly sexually assaulted in November.

The attack led to the nine-year-old female Staffordshire terrier being put down and her 10-year-old playmate suffering trauma after a severe battering.

Veterinarian Tim Hill treated the bitch and said its injuries were like nothing ever encountered in his 15-year career.

The NewsMail’s November 23 article was met with a flood of sympathy in text messages and letters, leading the owners to create a Facebook group on December 5.

Yesterday almost 800 members from across the world had joined the group, called “Sexual Assault on Family Pet”.

Countless messages now flood the Facebook page.

“These type of sick individuals start with animals and where does it stop — with people?” Anita-Lee Summers asked.

“I am so appalled by this attack. I don’t think the ones that did this can be called human or animal, just low-down scum bags,” Kevin Meredith said.

The Bargara family, who wished to remain anonymous, said they had been overwhelmed by the response, but as yet were no closer to finding the perpetrators.

“We’re certainly not giving up the hunt. We know it will be hard to find who did this unless someone comes forward with information,” the owner said.

The male dog, a family pet for the last decade, is recovering well after initially suffering shock, bruising and lacerations according to the owner.

“Blood tests were clear and now he seems to be quite well,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
