NIGEL Brennan and Amanda Lindhout were said to have been working on a story about Somalis who had fled Mogadishu after fighting between government forces and insurgents.
It is believed the journalists were abducted as they came from interviewing and taking photos at a refugee camp in Afgoye district.
Family friend Bec Hutchins said Nigel had gone to Somalia to photograph the humanitarian crisis of men, women and children.
“I believe he went because he had concerns for those people shoved into those sites (displacement camps), with little or no sanitation
or water,” she said.
“He wanted to show the world what was happening.”
