Mt Perry races from new heights

TAKE a look at the Mt Perry races from the new perspective of the refurbished grandstand, set to open today as part of festivities.

Minister for Public Works Robert Schwarten said the grandstand underwent a $50,000 upgrade to repair damage caused by termites.

“The existing flooring has been removed to replace at least half of the damaged floor joists,” Mr Schwarten said.

“The three main piers to the base of the building and timber piers to the top floor of the grandstand have been replaced with steel. New roof sheeting and guttering have been installed, the roof battens replaced and all hand rails repaired.”

The annual race meet starts at 10.30am today with the five races to start from 1pm.

There will be plenty for the fashionistas, with fashions of the field for women, men, groups, children and, to celebrate Movember, the man with the best moustache.

The race track is 5km south of Mt Perry.

Entry is $10 for adults and free for children under the age of 18.
