The scene of yesterday's fatal traffic accident at Apple Tree Creek.
A 31-YEAR-OLD Isis mum was killed and her son critically injured after her car rolled over at Apple Tree Creek yesterday.
In the second fatal car accident on Bundaberg region roads in four days, the woman is believed to have been travelling south along the Bruce Highway when her white Toyota 4WD hit the gutter near the Bundaberg overpass and flipped just before 8am.
She was declared dead at the scene, while her two sons, aged four and two, were also injured.
The four-year-old boy suffered minor injuries, but his younger brother was airlifted to Brisbane in a critical condition with severe head and suspected internal injuries.
The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter airlifted the children to hospital.
AGL Action Rescue Helicopter pilot Dennis Branch said when the chopper arrived, emergency services were on the scene with paramedics treating the two children.
"The rescue helicopter team had taken off with the two children when the younger child’s condition deteriorated quickly," he said.
"We had to land quickly, pick up another paramedic to assist with treating the child en-route and rush them to Bundaberg Hospital.
"Our thoughts go out to the family and we pray the children come though this terrible accident."Bundaberg Police Inspector Kev Guteridge said the accident was particularly distressing as it followed a two-car crash on Rosedale Road on Friday night in which two people died, including a Bundaberg mum.
"We’ve now got two families deprived of their mothers within 62 hours," Insp Guteridge said.
The two-year-old boy was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane by the Royal Flying Doctor Service for urgent specialist attention, while the four-year-old will remain at Bundaberg Hospital.
A Brisbane Royal Children’s Hospital spokeswoman said the boy was in a serious but stable condition last night.
