Woman killed, kids injured in accident

A WOMAN has been killed and two children seriously injured in single vehicle accident on the Bruce Highway at Apple Tree Creek.

A WOMAN has died and two children have been airlifted to hospital after a serious motor vehicle accident just north of Childers this morning.

The woman, believed to be the children’s mother, was fatally injured after losing control of her 4WD which collided with a light pole on the Bruce Highway at Apple Tree Creek, 5kms north of Childers.

The two children, aged approximately four years old and 18 months, were both seriously injured in the accident, with the 18-month-old toddler suffering serious head and internal injuries while the four-year-old suffered fractures and abrasions.

The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter was rushed to the scene to airlift the children to hospital.

“We were tasked just after 8am this morning and we tracked to the Bruce Highway location 5km north of Childers” said AGL Action Rescue Helicopter pilot Dennis Branch.

“When we arrived, emergency services were on scene with paramedics treating the two children.”

The Royal Flying Doctor Service is believed to be preparing to take the 18 month old to Brisbane for urgent specialist attention.
