Qld urged to prepare for bushfires

Qld urged to prepare for bushfiresWITH the climate creating dryer conditions once more in south-east Queensland, the threat of bushfires this season is very real.

GAETA farmers will receive much-needed assistance with three four-person teams to help rebuild stock fences, destroyed by this week's fires, due to arrive in Gin Gin this morning.

Premier Anna Bligh announced yesterday afternoon that the RoadTek workers would be available to help the community out.

Ms Bligh said at meetings earlier in the week Bundaberg Mayor Lorraine Pyefinch told her livestock security was a concern in the area.

“Primary producers whose properties have been devastated by the fires can ill-afford to lose livestock escaping thr- ough damaged fence lines,” Ms Bligh said.

Twenty students from the Australian Agricultural College Corporation will travel to Gin Gin with instructors on Monday and will work out of the showgrounds for a week.

“Where the danger has passed, there is now an opportunity for these crews to go in and help secure properties,” Ms Bligh said.

She said the state government would continue to work with communities to help them recover from the fires.
