Firefighters are undertaking control strategies to manage a large wildfire north-west of the Bruce Highway, between Gaeta and Gin Gin.
WITH the climate creating dryer conditions once more in south-east Queensland, the threat of bushfires this season is very real.
QUEENSLAND Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) are undertaking control strategies to manage a large wildfire north-west of the Bruce Highway, between Gaeta and Gin Gin.
The fire, which has destroyed about 380sq km of land, has been contained and local residents can expect to see fire trucks and personnel throughout the area over the next 48-72 hours.
QFRS regional community safety co-ordinator Neil Kaminiski said they would use various control measures including back burning and aerial water bombing to ensure the fire remains under control.
As a result of the current mild conditions, firefighters will place a large back burn ahead of the northern flank fire.
QFRS would like to thank local land holders who have worked with firefighters in providing grader lines, fire breaks, containment lines and firefighting to prevent the spread of fire.
