32, growing strong, and never been clipped

CHRIS Meehan has decided to end his 32-year love affair with his hair on Saturday, when he will shave off his never-been-clipped moustache in a bid to raise money for cancer.

Mr Meehan, 48, has been growing his facial hair since he was 16 but decided to sacrifice the moustache in honour of his late mother Irene, who lost her life to cancer complications and his stepfather Graham, a passionate regular at cancer fundraisers.

Mr Meehan works at Bundaberg nursing home Gracehaven with nurse Jane Gerrard, who was nominated for the Cancer Council Queensland's nurse of the year for 2009.

“It's been there a long time and people have tried over the years to get rid of it, but as I said, Jane seems to have succeeded,” Mr Meehan laughs.

“We've raised over a thousand dollars just for a mo.”

The moustache will be clipped on Saturday at Hair Force One, Bourbong Street, at 2pm.
