Canegrowers Bundaberg director Allan Dingle.
BUNDABERG cane grower Allan Dingle is hoping another downpour of rain does not affect this year's crush.
The Canegrowers Bundaberg director hoped the 53mm deluge that hit the region on Tuesday was the last downpour before cane crushing begins in June.
“We certainly won't be wanting any more (rain),” Mr Dingle said.
Heavy rain hit the region on Monday and Tuesday.
Mr Dingle said similar weather in coming weeks would delay the crush, which is due to start on June 8.
Isis Canegrowers chairman Joe Russo said this week's rain was a “blessing” for growers.
“It was lovely - it will top the crops off nicely before the crush,” Mr Russo said.
The crush time for Isis canegrowers will be determined at this week's general meeting.
Forecaster Hayden Walker, from Walker's Weather, expected low rain levels for June, with a slight pick-up leading into July and August.
Mr Walker does long-term forecasts based on climate patterns and sun activity.
“It may be a bit colder this winter,” he said.
“But it won't be as wet as some winters.”
