A BID by Sydney-based medical centre giant Primary Health Care to provide a GP super clinic in Bundaberg will be followed through by the regional Health Community Council (HCC).
Bundaberg HCC chairman Jim Mullett yesterday said they would be seeking talks with the company, which is vying for the $5 million super clinic under a federally-funded $275 million scheme.
Mr Mullett said a super clinic had the potential to “take the stress off” some areas of Bundaberg Hospital.
News of the bid by Primary Health Care came after GP Links announced it would not submit a bid to set-up the super clinic after polling Bundaberg doctors. The group, which represents 70 doctors in Bundaberg and 170 in the Wide Bay, said the idea was unviable and would be bad for business.
The Australian Medical Association Queensland said a GP clinic could destabilise doctors' businesses in the area and they should instead be provided with more resources.
