A 53-YEAR-OLD woman died in a two vehicle traffic crash in Bundaberg last night.

Initial information suggests the woman was attempting a U-turn on George Street around 6.20pm when the collision occurred.

Bundaberg Police Senior Constable Timothy Lowth said it appeared the woman, who was driving a Hyundai Excel carrying two passengers, had pulled off to the side of the road before doing a U-turn about 6pm.

"One vehicle did a U-turn in front of an oncoming vehicle that was not able to stop at the time," he said.

Snr Const Lowth said police did not believe alcohol or speed were involved.

He praised the actions of a passer-by who administered immediate CPR and first aid to the woman until ambulance officers arrived at the scene.

The woman was transported to the Bundaberg Base Hospital but later died.

Police believe the woman was the mother of at least one of the passengers in the vehicle.

The driver of a second car, a 33-year-old Bargara man was not injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

There is no further information available.
