No drama during birth of triplets

IT TOOK just 14 minutes for Chenoa Trama to naturally give birth to her triplets.

Not only did the Yandina Creek parents move quickly from having two children to five, the triplets were the first born at Nambour General Hospital for 17 years.

Mrs Trama, who found out she was pregnant with triplets at six-and-a-half weeks, said the news came as a big surprise.

Multiple births are not in her family or husband Daniel's. Mrs Trama gave birth on Wednesday.

"I feel great, very blissed out," she said, hugging an armful of babies.

"Being able to birth them naturally was just awe inspiring for me," Mrs Trama said.

The hospital setting was a change for Mrs Trama who water-birthed her two other children, five-year-old Jordan and three-year-old Amali, at home.

"We went from one extreme to the other - and I was very determined not to have a c-section and it all worked out in the end," she said.

Isaac Daniel weighing 2.42kg was born at 9.47pm at 34 weeks, followed by brother Dylan David (2.845kg) and sister Ailah Elizabeth (2.31kg).

"My water broke at 8pm and we left home not long after," Mrs Trama said.

"Daniel wheeled me into the delivery suite, I stood up and instantly said, 'I need to push now', and it was just very fast and I don't think everyone was ready.

"Isaac came out not long later and then 11 minutes later Dylan came out breach and three minutes later, Ailah.

"It all happened so fast and easy.

"Each time they scanned me in between the babies, the next baby was lined up and ready to go.

"If everything is safe and everything lines up you can birth multiples naturally, it can be done. There are a couple of other women in Australia who have done it and I'm now one of those."

Nambour General Hospital nurse unit manager Linda Pallett commended Mrs Trama.

"We're in awe of this lady, she managed to carry three babies, greater than 7kg of weight, for 34 weeks," she said.

As if naturally giving birth to triplets was not admirable enough, Mrs Trama intends to breastfeed her triplets.

"I won't put too much pressure on myself, but that is my aim," she said.

With a strong brood of five darlings, do they have plans for any more?

"No I think we're good," Mrs Trama said.

"We only have one spot left in the van," she added with a laugh.
