Tigers, Sharks celebrate wins in the NDRL

SOUTH Kolan and Avondale exerted their dominance over the Northern Districts Rugby League at the weekend with a pair of contrasting wins in Miriam Vale.

Avondale destroyed Agnes Water 82-16 in the first game and it's hard to believe the losing team played off in the grand final in 2013.

Last season Agnes Water was one of the most settled teams in the competition and this year has found it hard to maintain the same playing list each week.

With 19 players at its disposal at the weekend Avondale ran the 15-man Agnes Water team ragged.

For Avondale, five-eighth Matthew Ross crossed the line for four tries, Villiami Tufulele scored three and Sonatane Lilo and Tevita Fonua each grabbed two.

Avondale's powerful forwards and try-hungry backs were too good for the under-strength Agnes Water.

The South Kolan-Mirian Vale encounter was much closer with the Sharks getting the points in a 38-34 win.

Co-coaches Dean Akers and Shane Beatson will be rubbing their hands together with the delight as their players get more accustomed to playing as a team with every game and training session.

As the season goes on South Kolan's ability to play as a team, instead of relying on individual brilliance, is improving.

Challenged by Miriam Vale, South Kolan had the composure to finish the job against the home team. Vahiti Hopoi bagged a double for South Kolan.

In games this week in Gin Gin South Kolan plays Avondale and Gin Gin takes on Agnes Water.
