Maryborough and Hervey Bay TAFE campuses secure

THE LNP's axe has not fallen on TAFE campuses at Maryborough or Hervey Bay, despite the State Government announcing 25 facilities statewide would be moved or closed.

It had been feared the heritage city would lose its facility after mass closures were recommended in the Skills and Training Taskforce Report released this month.

But despite concerning enrolments numbers, Member for Maryborough Anne Maddern said she made it known to Education, Training and Employment Minister John-Paul Langbroek the campus was essential.

"I had spoken to the minister and put a case forward for Maryborough campus to be retained and I am really pleased," Ms Maddern said.

"I would like to look to use the TAFE campus and look for alternative ideas to expand the use of it."

Member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorensen said he did not think the whale city's campus had been in doubt.

He said Mr Langbroek got a first-hand view of the campus's success during a recent visit and he claimed the institute's partnership with local high schools meant its enrolment figures remained consistent.
