Aussie singles too lazy to mingle, says study

THE 2015 eHarmony Relationship Study has revealed that single Australians are spending more time watching TV or sitting at a computer than looking for love, despite listing love as a top life priority.

According to the study, 64 per cent of singles claim they're single because haven't find the right person, yet on average they spend as little as an hour per week actively looking.

eHarmony's Dating and Relationship Expert, Melanie Schilling says the latest research on the science of wellbeing shows positive emotion and relationships are among the key aspects of really being happy.

"It makes sense to invest in the quality relationships in our life," she said.

"Wouldn't it be better to invest more than an hour per week in finding and maintaining a great relationship?"

The study also found that Hollywood may be contributing to an "over-romanced notion of what it is to fall in love".

Fifty five per cent of respondents cited film as a big influence on their perception of what love should be like and 65 per cent say they believe love can't be searched for because "love will find you".

"The Hollywood fantasy that 'love will find me' is fine for people who have all the time in the world." says Ms Schilling.

But if you are ready for something more meaningful now, then a more strategic and conscious dating approach will work better."

Sixty five per cent of singles say they know they should be more strategic about dating, but not all singles are unhappy with their relationship status.

While just over a quarter said confidence issues made dating difficult, more than 60 per cent of respondents said they enjoyed the time to themselves and not being accountable for anyone else.
