BUNDABERG region residents are being urged to be vigilant after a recent spate of snakebites.

Queensland Ambulance Service Assistant Commissioner Chris Broomfield said a 61-year-old Branyan man was bitten by a snake and required medical attention at Bundaberg Hospital last week.

He said the onset of warmer weather had meant snakes became more active.

"Snakes are on the move and people need to take care particularly when they are outside gardening, bush walking or using public parks," Mr Broomfield said.

"In the last two months, paramedics have responded to 14 snake bite cases across the region."

If bitten, immediately dial 000, stay as calm and still as possible and wait for help.
