Riders set to take on the state’s best

GIN GIN Motocross rider Stephanie Franks may be only eight years of age, but she knows her way around a motor bike and is right at home on Bingera Weir Rd track after following her three older brothers into the sport when she was just four.

Heading into the weekend's Queensland Motocross Titles for junior female riders and the last round of the South East Queensland Junior MX Series, Stephanie will compete in seven races, her biggest meet yet.

"I've been practising second-gear starts," she said.

"It makes you go out of the gates faster.

"But it's not about winning, it's just about having fun."

Female racers vying for Plate honours in the state titles will compete in the 65cc, Mini Lites and Junior Lites categories with four 10-minute races held over the two days.

Practising at least five hours a week in addition to club-run practice and competitions, Stephanie is also looking forward to racing against friends from near and far.

"Two of my cousins race, one in the 50cc and one in the 65cc with me," Stephanie said.

"I also get to see my best friend from Brisbane, Taylah McCutcheon, she won the F1 plate last year."

The event is hosted by Rum City Motorcycle Club.

Stephanie's mum and club secretary Trudy Franks said up to 200 competitors were ready to race across two big days of action, with bike checks from 6.15am today.

"The SEQ titles is the only race that separates graded riders so it gives kids that maybe wouldn't normally get a trophy the chance to race against riders at their level," she said.

"This is our first big event since the floods.

"It's taken a lot of time to get the track up and running again, it's been a big effort.''

Canteen facilities will be available both days and spectators are very welcome.
