A BACKPAKER has been airlifted by RACQ CareFlight Rescue from Fraser Island in the early hours of Tuesday morning after she was bitten by a snake.

The Bundaberg rescue helicopter was tasked to Eurong on the island's east coast just after midnight to airlift the woman.

While the patient didn't display signs of being affected by venom, she was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital as a precaution.

MORE SNAKES: Woolworths responds to live snake in spuds bag

It's the sixth snake bite case that RACQ CareFlight Rescue has responded to this month.

On Saturday another female backpacker was bitten by a snake at Gayndah. Last Wednesday CareFlight airlifted two people bitten by snakes.

The first was a woman gardening at her Goondiwindi home who was bitten on the foot by an unidentified snake species.

The second was a man at Glenmorgan bitten on the back of his leg by what was believed to be a brown snake.

Two earlier airlifts this month involved a boy who was airlifted from Noosa Hospital on the 14th of March and an elderly man who had been gardening at Miles on the first.

Anyone who is bitten by a snake should limit body movement, apply a compression bandage to the bite area and call triple zero immediately.
