A LOT of promises and a lot of new ideas is what Palmer United Party candidate for the seat of Bundaberg Robert Brown says you can expect from his election campaign.

With a trip to Coolum to meet with party leader Clive Palmer at his resort at the weekend, Mr Brown said he's excited for what's to come over the next few weeks.

But with the Palmer United Party not launching its official campaign until Sunday, January 18 any of their promises or new ideas were locked up tight.

"It's all full on after the 18th," he said.

"I can say this though; there will be no sale of assets and no leasing assets."

Mr Brown said he is passionate about skill advancement, increasing employment and providing better health care services.

He hoped if elected he could lobby for a new hospital and car park for Bundaberg, noting the current facility to be old and outdated.

"It's over 100 years old; we need a more modern hospital," he said.

Mr Brown is a retired tradesman and said travel with wife Mary Lou has given him perspective.

"We've been doing a lot of travelling around Australia in a caravan," he said.

"When you get out there and see what else is around, and what other facilities towns have compared to Bundaberg."

The couple have a home base in Kentucky Blue Grass where they have lived in retirement for five years.

Before that, the couple lived in Townsville for three years, where Mr Brown retired from work.

The move to Bundaberg was about family and friends.

Mr Brown said a lot of their friends moved to the region when they retired.

"So we sort of followed them to Bundaberg," he said.

"And it was closer to see the grandkids in Brisbane."

The couple have four kids between the ages of 26 and 35, two boys in Bundaberg and two girls in Brisbane.

Mr Brown was born and schooled in Gympie but said he spent most of his working life in Brisbane.

"I worked in Gympie for three years after school," he said. "Then I went on to Brisbane and did my apprenticeship."

But as Mr Brown now looks to come out of retirement for politics, he sent out this message.

"All these years we've had two parties, now we've got another party, we need to make the change now."
