North Burnett mayor ousted

NORTH Burnett Mayor Joy Jensen has been ousted with a convincing margin by Gayndah man Don Waugh.

Mr Waugh was able to claim just over 59% of the vote compared to Cr Jensen's 40%.

Cr Jensen, who has been a councillor for 12 years, was almost 1000 votes behind her rival.

Mr Waugh said he was feeling very positive after the result.

"I have campaigned on the basis of representing the people the North Burnett," he said.

"I have promised always to keep in touch with the people."

Mr Waugh said he expected the six divisional councillors all to work as a team over the next four years.

The numbers:

  •  Don Waugh: 3000, 59.14%
  •  Joy Jensen: 2073, 40.86%
  •  Counted: 5112
