A 34-YEAR-OLD Sharon man has been remanded in custody after being charged in relation to the 2001 Gold Coast murder of Darren John Britza.

Shane Anthony Eric Hansen appeared in the Bundaberg District Court yesterday morning after two detectives travelled to Bundaberg to arrest Hansen as part of operation Golf Dodge.

Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildred said Hansen, who worked as a carpenter in the Bundaberg region, was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning following an ongoing investigation.

Det Snr Sgt Hildred said Hansen was the third person to be charged with murder in relation to the matter.

Former lovers Jade Marie Clarke and Dean Mark Wills were charged in 2009 following a lengthy police investigation and in May this year. Clarke was sentenced to life behind bars for her role in the brutal murder.

Britza was beaten to death in a Southport panel-beating shop on March 23, 2001.

Mr Britza's skeletal remains were found wrapped in a blue tarp by fishermen under a bridge at Biddadaba Rd, Boyland in the Gold Coast Hinterland in 2008 after record rainfall unearthed the grave site.

After the body was found, it took two moths for police to identify it as Mr Britza as a missing person report was never filed.

A badly-damaged SIM card was found in the pocket of his jeans and gave police the lead they needed.

Hansen appeared briefly in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court before the matter was adjourned to the Brisbane Court, where the case will be mentioned again on November 5.

Hansen was not eligible to seek bail yesterday and Magistrate Aaron Simpson told Hansen any bail application could only be made through the Supreme Court.
