Magic and mayhem in Now You See Me

Movie: Now You See Me

Reviewer: Joseph Akers

Rating: M

Genre: Crime

Run time: 115 minutes

Production: Hopscotch

Showing: In cinemas now

Joeden stars: 3.5/5

Verdict: Now You See Me is a pleasure to see

NOW You See Me stars Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers), Isla Fisher (Confessions of a Shopaholic), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), Woody Harrelson (Zombieland) and Morgan Freeman (seemingly from 40% of films ever made).

Now You See Me is about a group of magicians who do a live show in which they rob a bank and the police get involved.

The visuals and style of this film is absolutely breathtaking.

The way that the pulled of the magic tricks all depended on the cinematography and acting performances.

Isla Fisher's opening magic trick to the film has the right amount of suspense and creativity.

The performances are obviously top notch, you wouldn't think them to be bad either.

My favourite performance was from Woody Harrelson, who supplied quite a fair amount of laughs to the film that worked.

The directing style was cool and fun and at times makes you feel like you're at an actual magic show, and I really had fun with that.

The problem with this film lies into scripting as the characters are underdeveloped and that is because there are too many characters.

Don't get me wrong, you get a proper character arc for Mark Ruffalo's character, yet the magicians (though likeable and cool) are generic and underdeveloped.

Although the magicians are doing bad things you still really like them, and the writers do a good job with this.

Overall, Now You See Me is fun and actually quite believable.
