IF YOU'RE wondering how surf lifesavers have the stamina to rescue people when it counts, this might give you a clue.

NewsMail photographer Mike Knott was up early one morning this week and took the time to photograph and video some of our surf athletes in a board training session, under the watchful eye of Surf Life Saving Queensland regional manager Craig Holden.

As the surf lifesaving season gets under way this weekend, the red and yellow army will return to the beach for another season of patrols and surf carnivals until May next year.
