Fisherman catches monster marlin using handline

NICHOLAS Watson is the man of the moment after catching a huge marlin on an 80lb handline.

There was plenty of cheering, yahooing and swearing as Nicholas hooked the monster fish in the Whitsundays off Lindeman Island.

"I've never caught a marlin on a handline, I've never even caught a marlin," Mr Watson screamed as he pulled in the line.

Within eight minutes, not a mark on his hands, using pilchard as bait and some close calls with the engine, the keen fisherman pulled the 'beautiful animal' into the boat to get some still shots.

"Yeah we released it," Nicholas said on the YouTube video.

"Swam it alongside boat for 5 minutes and it kicked away."
